I’m as green a pilot as they come; I’ve had two lessons, and have flown half a dozen times with my husband who passed his PPL a couple of months ago.

If you’d asked me two years ago whether I would ever learn to fly, I’d have said no! I’ve always enjoyed air shows and events, but wouldn’t have thought I’d be starting to study for my own license at all. Yet now, a few lessons in, I can’t wait for the next one!

Where did you start? When did you feel you knew it was the field for you? Is your objective the same now as it was when you first started (e.g. go commercial or learn for pleasure)?

I’d love to hear what inspired you and how far along your dream journey you are!

    Hi @thatcanadiangirl!

Thank you so much for writing in. We love hearing all about your experiences, and it is so great to hear how your journey has progressed from flying with your husband to now having flying hours yourself!

For me (Amy), my flying journey started with my dad, he is a massive aviation geek and has always instilled a passion for aviation, from taking me to museums and airshows to paying for my first discovery flight as my 21st birthday present. My first lesson gave me the flying bug and now I cannot wait to develop further by getting my PPL.

Ultimately, the dream for me is to fly in whatever capacity that may be, to corporate jets, to charter jets or even airliners.

It is always so nice to connect and hear other women’s stories as that for me is what inspires me to reach for my goals and gain new aspirations in my aviation journey.

Again, thank you so much for writing in and I wish you the very best of luck in your aviation journey 🙂

    All the best,

    Amy Bardin-Rodriguez
